One reason why there is water on moon

By on 4:26 AM

For last five decades since the beginning of Apollo program and its Soviet counterparts, it was assumed that the Moon is a dry ball with no water existed ever on its surface because moon was a product of primitive earth collision with some Mars like object and hence cannot sustain water on its crust. Some theorists also suggested that if water ever could be find on the Moon it will only by means of asteroids and meteors that are showering on moon for billions of years.

In an article published in Natural Geoscience by Youxue Zhang of University of Michigan and his colleagues from University of Tennessee and California Institute of Technology present findings that solar-wind is cause of production Ice on Moon.

Origin of lunar surface is still a mystery for geologist. for years. The theoretical model of 1970 suggests that charged Hydrogen ions (Protons) combined with oxygen on moon’s surface to form water and other hydroxyl ions. Now in the paper published on Geoscience the researchers present infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry analyses of Apollo samples that reveal the presence of significant amounts of hydroxyl inside glasses formed in the lunar regolith by micrometeorite impacts.

This microscope image shows a grain of agglutinate glass similar to those analyzed in the lunar surface-water study reported in Nature Geoscience. The specimen in this image, which comes from samples returned by Apollo astronauts, is smaller than a typical dust grain. Image by Yang Liu.

"We found that the 'water' component, the hydroxyl, in the lunar regolith is mostly from solar wind implantation of protons, which locally combined with oxygen to form hydroxyls that moved into the interior of glasses by impact melting," said Zhang, the James R. O'Neil Collegiate Professor of Geological Sciences.
According to researchers ‘Lunar regolith’ that contains hydroxyl , OH and other water components that are widely spread across the lunar soil but cannot be accessible as water for futre manned missions to Moon.

What is DNA

By on 5:27 AM

DNA is found in all living creatures.

DNA was first isolated by Friedrich Miescher, who in 1869, discovered a  microscopic substance in pus of discarded surgical bandage and named Nuclein.
dnastructure

DNA has double-helix structure like a twisted ladder. The steps of ladder are  Bases….ADENINE,THYMINE, CYTOSINE, GUANINE.

The sides of DNA Ladder are made of sugar and phosphate atoms.

Our entire DNA sequence is called Gnome…..and there are estimated 3.000,000,000 DNA Bases in human body cells .

Our 3 billion DNA bases requires 3 Gigabytes of storage space.

99.9 % of DNA sequence is same in all human beings.

This 0.1% of DNA difference between us may have to do with number of nucleotides in person’s DNA.

Our DNA contains all genetic information that is necessary for living beings including survival  in different conditions , interaction with our habitat , reproduction etc.

DNA not only stores genetic information but also modify it according to different conditions of habitat or life requirement as surviving strategy in evolution process for last 3.5 billion years.

When DNA is copied into a new life nucleotides are either gained or lost in process. this is the basic cause of difference in human beings and also the possible reason for our journey through evolution.
In 2003, the final draft of complete DNA sequence of human being is completed.

you must know about last frontier of commerce : Space

About half a century ago the space race which was ignited by former Soviet Union after sending Sputnik Ito orbit of earth has reached to International space Station and beyond with Kepler mission to study Earth like habitable zones into our galaxy. Some private companies are also in line that are promising their customers that they will reach to space with their full capabilities as soon as middle of this decade and introduced their space trips where sky is no more a limit ! for those who could afford millions of dollars for a vacation.

It is a great saying that –“ future is important for us because one day we are going to live in that future only”.That is why every one wants to see the ‘first look’ of what will be going to happen in next few years. Space is always considered as the last frontier to be conquered by human race. Thousands of imagination including colonization of space , regular flights to different celestial bodies, clean energy extraction and precious metals from dwarf planets of Kuiper belt are still lying on the pens of great visionary authors and scientists (some of them are no more…)  and still waiting to be realized from sketches to real world.

Colonies in Space

If tourists will go to space , there should be hotels like those in Los Angeles floating in space to welcome them ? As space tourism would be affordable for people, the crowd of tourists will require a stay there. Presently ISS(International Space Station) is the only place in unforgiving space for space travellers. One can also consider temporary space station setup by china but these to merely afford people in space if we are talking about serious colonization of space.

Hopefully scenario would change in upcoming years as so many private companies are interested in making  floating tourist spots in space. Robert Bigelow a Hotel pioneer is busy with his company Bigelow aerospace which is developing Genesis I and II and Bigelow commercial Space Station will reach orbit as soon as end of this decade. Similarly ‘Nautilus’ a space station for sole purpose of serving space tourists will came to existence in next few years. Some other companies like Space adventures Limited and Space X have serious plans for orbital flights and space station.

The honey bee hives are disappearing from nature.....

By on 6:19 AM

Einstein apparently said-“ All men will vanish from earth after two years of extinction of honey bees….”
European_honey_bee_extracts_nectar
Have you remember the last time when you hear the buzz of a honey bee? You might be thankful to god that you had not encountered an angry bee, because its just an undesirable encounter that should happen and often a sign of misfortune that you are going to be biten by a heartless creature that is small but still a nightmare! But that might not be true for all of us at least for a person who spent his or her childhood with nature in summers (of 69?). For regular people it is necessary to know that honey bees does not exist as a synthesizer of honey for your meal but honey bees are the prime pollinators(Spread pollens from one flower to another for reproduction) of one third of crops that grew each year throughout the world. Decline of population of these Bees from 30 to 90% is cause of concern and reason for decline in crop production for last seven years in some parts of world especially in US.

Scientists have described many causes since their population declined like too much intensity of radio signals caused by excessive use mobile phones by the people. Radio signals causes an interruption in way , the bees communicate and they lost their ways to honeycombs, left for dying without their habitat. But are mobile phones really be reasons for disappearance of bees from croplands, miles away from city rush as the mobile towers don’t exist in villages more often. …

Some Harvard University researchers hypothesized that the uptick in Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) resulted from the presence of imidacloprid, a neonicotinoid pesticide introduced in the early 1990s. Bees can be exposed in two ways: through nectar from plants or through high-fructose corn syrup beekeepers use to feed their bees. (Since most U.S.-grown corn has been treated with imidacloprid, it’s also found in corn syrup.)

In the summer of 2010, the Harvard researchers conducted an in situ study in Worcester County aimed at replicating how imidacloprid may have caused the colony collapse disorder outbreak. Over a 23-week period, they monitored bees in four different bee yards; each yard had four hives treated with different levels of imidacloprid and one control hive. After 12 weeks of imidacloprid dosing, all the bees were alive. But after 23 weeks, 15 of the 16 imidacloprid-treated hives had perished. Those exposed to the highest levels of the pesticide died first.

The final results are described as positive, as the dead hives found by the researchers were almost similar to that caused by the pesticide. The final report will be published later on as research paper and will be sent to the concerned authorities, officials and farmers since this is a crucial issue in field of agriculture productions and economy.
